ASUU STRIKE: LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: THE TAKE HOME.
THE TAKE HOME ON DECISIONS REACHED
It was announced yesterday by the human right lawyer and senior advocate of Nigeria Mr Femi Falana SAN through the Tribune online News that the protracted ASUU STRIKE would end in days, thereafter, Punch News came with yet another headline that quoted ASUU president to have said "WE HAVE SEEN LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL".
In light of those two headlines that relayed almost same message, here are few and important take homes as captured in a lengthy report written by Kehinde Akintola on Oct. 10, 2022
1. That based on the efforts made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon Femi Gbajabiamila in trying to find lasting solutions to the strike action past weeks consultation and meetings with both federal government and ASUU at different points, that a deal was already struck which required just finishing touches as a document that could be signed and cited at any time.
2. The deal which was struck was based on the fact that the both parties have agreed to give in at some point of their demand in the interest of Nigerian students and all others affected by the strike.
3. The federal government on her parts has agreed to address NO WORK NO PAY IMPASSE and have made efforts through the recently presented National National to capture both revitalization funds for Nigeria universities.
4. The federal government equally assured ASUU that rather than accept UTAS as payment platform for the academics, she would work with ASUU to integrate every peculiarities applicable in the welfare packages for the academics into the national payment platform IPPIS and equally assured ASUU that the improvement of the packages will be taken care of.
5. On the part of ASUU, the president appreciated everyone involved in the negotiations and equally thanked Nigerians for their patience and support especially Nigerians students who are directly affected, but equally said that it was for their own good and protection/repositioning of the image of our Universities, though he regretted that the steps taken at this point was long overdue which could have shortened the strike.
6. It was at that point he did say "we seen light at the end of the tunnel" where expressed his satisfaction on the agreement struck and he said they awaited proper documents of reference which will be ready for signing by today being Oct. 11, 2022.
7. Nevertheless, he said the Union as everyone knows run a bottom top system and they needed consultation from various branches before they could make official announcement on their decision to call off the strike even as he hoped that there wouldn't repetition of what happened on other compromises reached earlier on same matter from federal government side.
The few lines above are all you need to know concerning what happened yesterday being Monday the 10th of Oct. 2022 concerning ASUU.
