VIDEO: ALL YOU NEED KNOW ABOUT THE MENACING FLOOD WIPING OUT LIVES AND PROPERTIES IM NIGERIA
HOW THE CURRENT FLOODING WAS CAUSED BY GOVERNMENT FAILURES
It is no news again that flood has wiped still wiping families and properties worth billions year after year in Nigeria, but people don't really know exactly why this has worsened this year. This is all you need to know as captured in the article done by Baron Roy and the video clip. Excerpts:
The Dams on the River Benue
Watching the disaster from Lokoja to Anambra, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa breaks my heart. My dear friends, I had a little experience of this flood over the weekend too as I had to take a circuitous route to Port Harcourt...and still, I waded through water in my giant truck for tens of kilometres! It's a calamity out there! Whole communities cut off from civilization, emergency community-based IDPs everywhere...fatalities...and worse!
There's heavy suffering in these states...
But do you know that these floods occur yearly? Yes, yearly! But every 10 years, there's a major one. The last major flood was in 2012, then 2022.
Now, this is NO natural disaster...
A dam was constructed in the Cameroon mountains. The dam empties into the River Benue from Cameroon. During the conceptualization of the dam, the calculations revealed that the storage would rise during the rainy seasons and the sluice gates would be opened intermittently to relieve the weight of the water on the dam walls. But this storage water is in millions of gallons and would affect all communities downstream the dam!
With the above, an agreement was arrived at with the Government of Nigeria to construct at least 2nos huge dams downstream on the Benue. These dams ought to have been constructed in 1982 in the then Gongola State...now around Taraba (in fact, just upstream of Tella township).
The Nigerian government NEVER constructed those dams!
And if the Cameroonians don't relieve storage water from time to time, the dam would break and whole Cameroonian (and even Nigerian) communities would be wiped out!
But Nigeria never constructed her own dam...in 40yrs.
So we get served yearly!
For our determined stupidity!
We can't have this any longer! Whatever we do, a dam MUST be constructed on the River Benue in Taraba as a matter of urgency!
We don't care where the money would come from but we have to construct a dam now!
Folks are dying and the suffering is massive! 60% of Bayelsa State is submerged! It's a humanitarian crises in Bayelsa, in Delta, Anambra, Rivers and Kogi! We couldn't have another disaster like this! We've got to construct a dam now! NOW!!!
We should think outside the box already! The affected States could pool resources to construct the dam already! 15bn Naira each from the states with counterpart funding from the federal government (if we could call it that or if it exists) and at least one dam would be up. Then we'd be able to control the flow of water to stop this annual flooding! Or if the federal government could grow some sense and construct the dam...but a government that hasn't built the all-important dam in 40yrs would not build it now!
I believe the states would have to do something never attempted before...
"To construct a dam in Taraba state to save the peoples of the affected states"!
Time to put on our thinking caps even if it's for a short period till the dam would be up!
We need to build a dam in Taraba now! How do we raise the funds?
We need a dam urgently, dammit!!!!
...or send airstr1kes to b0mb the one in Cameroon!!! Take your pick but we've gotta do something!!! ......From Baron Roy
You can see that this whole nonsense is an avoidable situation but owing to failure 9f government, citizens have been plunged into this unfortunate situation.
May God rest the soul of those killed by this and deliver us from this mess, but remember we can't continue to pray without taking action to remove criminals and incompetent folks from leadership. You must join hand to champion the course of progressive structure that will usher in good leadership and accountability at various fronts.
We start by voting in a healthy, competent candidate with clean track records, to ensure the ground is set running.
